In the heart of India’s lush-green Northeast, amidst the echoing folkloric rhythms and diverse linguistic cadences, Alcheringa takes place, the most significant cultural extravaganza the region beholds. Year after year, this fest, orchestrated primarily by the students of IIT Guwahati, burgeons beyond its physical frontier, interlacing the traditional ethos with contemporary culture, creating a mosaic where every piece narrates a story and every note conjures a memory.

Bridging Borders with Art

An exceptional testament to Alcheringa’s cross-cultural bridge is the presence and contribution of Bangladeshi artists. The proximity of North-East India to Bangladesh, both geographically and culturally, has facilitated this artistic exchange, nurturing a collaborative relationship.

The festival has witnessed a plethora of independent artists, folk singers, and traditional dancers from the nation, illuminating the stage with their unique artistry. Bangladeshi participants, known for their prowess in music, art, and literature, have become an integral segment of Alcher. Renowned bands like ‘Ark’ and ‘Lalon’ have previously graced the festival, leaving the audience spellbound with their fusion rock performances rooted in Bengali folk.  Their performances, often imbued with messages of peace, unity, and love, transcend the man-made confines of political borders.

Bangladeshi Artists Redefines Cultural Interactions

The participation of Bangladeshi artists initiates a meaningful dialogue beyond cultural transactions. Panel discussions, poetry sessions, and story-telling workshops led by these artists are common, invoking participation from an audience hailing from diverse backgrounds. These interactions often lead to an exchange of ideas central to social change, ecological awareness, and humanitarian values, subjects close to the heart of both regions.

Footsteps of Alcher in Dhaka

On a night ablaze with creativity and talent, the International University of Business, Agriculture, and Technology (IUBAT) College hosted the Dhaka City Auditions of “Highway to Alcher,” a magnificent prelude to the renowned cultural festival, Alcheringa. On October 26, 2023, the college campus turned into a lively platform for the up-and-coming artists of the city.

“Highway to Alcher” gave viewers a captivating tour of the worlds of talent and art, showcasing a variety of competitions, from the vocal prowess of “Voice of Alcheringa” to the pulsating beats of “SUTUCD” and the exquisite footwork of “Dancing Duo.” The spectacular “Haute Couture” fashion show, the energetic “Step Up” group choreography, and the thrilling “Electric Heels” were also featured at the event.
